- Story Text: Pub-goers in the village of Ballater in Scotland, just a few miles from Balmoral Castle where Queen Elizabeth died, on Friday (September 9) watched King Charles' address to the nation and afterwards praised his speech.
One regular said King Charles was "well loved" and had paid an "excellent tribute" to his mother.
Charles became king on Thursday (September 8) after the queen died aged 96 at her Scottish residence. On Friday he flew down from Scotland to London and delivered his first speech as sovereign, filmed at Buckingham Palace. It was broadcast to the nation at 1700GMT.
