And because I worked in business, I had a company - that will always wear a suit. And so, I incorporated into it something that is formidable, fitted, formal. And I started making suits for myself. And the guy in the gray right over there, Anray, he was going to a wedding with his husband, and they asked me to make them for the wedding. I had no idea, like somebody wanted. - Story Text: The first day of New York Fashion Week: The Shows kicked off on Friday (September 9) with genderless and menswear designers showcasing their new collections.
Canadian outerwear brand Nobis were among the sponsors for the two-part New York Mens Day shows.
Aaron Potts, the designer and creator of the brand A. Potts found said he used the things that provide him happiness to create his unisex looks.
“This collection was really about, you know, we've gone through pandemic, we've done all this stuff," he said. "And I wanted to put something out that felt joyful and light and airy and, you know, sort of connect it to the earth.â€
Potts said his inspiration was centered around the thought of terrestrial angels and how they express themselves through the elements of nature. His color palate represents the natural colors of nature including moss, butterflies, and birds.
Terry Singh specializes in creating custom dhoti. He started the collection in 2013 after living with yogis for 6 months and being inspired by the love and connection he would feel from people when he wore them.
The pieces are made for men, but he said they are genderless, however his goal to do design clothes that change people’s perceptions on sexuality.
“I want, in using our line in fashion as an inspiration for fathers and daughters or, even and sons to break the barriers now," he said. "Like this is an opportunity to break those barriers were the rules don't even exist now.â€
All of the models featured in his show volunteered and each were allowed to choose what they wanted to wear.
Other brands showing during day include Sperry, Amirok and Teddy Vonranson.
New York fashion week will run from September 9 until September 14.
