- Story Text:India and France on Wednesday reiterated calls for negotiation to end the conflict in Ukraine on Wednesday (September 14) in New Delhi as the French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna addressed the media with her Indian counterpart, SubrahmanyamJaishankar.
"This is something is a very serious issue for the entire global community," said Colonna said.
France will continue to work with India on the Jaitapurnuclear power plant project in the state of Maharashtra, she added.
The French dignitary's tour to India marks her first visit to an Asian country after she took up the position.
Colonna became the French foreign minister in May this year. Prior to this, she served as the foreign ambassador to the United Kingdom in 2019.
France's transport minister said on Sunday (September 11) that he would sign an agreement with Romania to help increase Ukrainian grain exports to developing countries including to the Mediterranean.
Ukraine's grain exports have slumped since the start of the war because its Black Sea ports, a key route for shipments, were closed off, driving up global food prices and prompting fears of shortages in Africa and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, despite Western pressure, India has not condemned Russia's February invasion of Ukraine, instead calling for a diplomatic solution to the crisis and an end to violence. Russia has for decades been India's biggest foreign supplier of defence hardware. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
