At least 11 people were killed and 25 others injured after a minibus they were travelling in fell into a gorge in India's northern Poonch district of the federal territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday (September 14).
The bus reportedly carrying 36 passengers was travelling from Mandi to the Sawjian area of the district, when the accident took place.
The Indian army reached the spot to carry out the rescue operations during which the injured passengers were rushed to Mandi hospital for treatment.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced a compensation of 500,000 rupees ($6,284.19) for the deceased and 100,000 rupees ($1,256.84) for the injured.
India has the world's deadliest roads, the result of a flood of untrained drivers, inadequate law enforcement, badly maintained highways, and cars that fail modern crash tests. The World Bank in 2021 said that India had a death on its roads every four minutes. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
