- Story Text: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday (October 12) that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S.-based business magnate Elon Musk had not spoken before the publication of Musk's settlement plan for Ukraine.
Peskov said the two men last spoke via telephone about 18 months ago.
Previously, Musk denied that he had discussed the settlement plan for Ukraine with the Russian president.
The Kremlin praised Tesla boss Musk on Tuesday (October 11) for suggesting a possible peace deal to end the war in Ukraine, after Kyiv rebuked Musk for proposing terms it views as rewarding Russia.
In a Twitter poll posted on Monday, Musk proposed Ukraine permanently cede Crimea to Russia, that new referendums be held under U.N. auspices to determine the fate of Russian-controlled territory, and that Ukraine agree to neutrality.
Kyiv says it will never agree to cede land taken by force, and lawful referendums cannot be held in the occupied territory where many people have been killed or driven out.
After Putin announced the annexation of four Ukrainian provinces on September 30, Kyiv said it was applying to join NATO, and would not negotiate with Russia as long as Putin is president. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
