- Story Text:A miner protest spilled over on Wednesday (October 12) when demonstrators blasted homemade dynamite firecrackers in the city center as they protested a new pension funds legislation.
Footage captured gusts of smoke coming from firecrackers explosions in avenues and roads as these artifacts are illegal and, so far, only usually used in protest sites.
Local Rosa Mayta faced off miners when a firecracker blasted nearby her.
Bolivian miners took to the streets of the capital city La Paz to protest the government’s move to take control of the state-run mining company Huanuco’s million-dollar pension fund, now managed by private companies.
The government intends to force state-run companies to keep their net profits in the Nation’s General Treasure, which will leave miners no money to carry out their projects, the leader of the Huanuni miners collective, Victor Cabrera, said.
