  • Story Text: Actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shut down New York City’s Time Square on Wednesday (October 12) to celebrate the opening of the biggest film of his career, “Black Adam.”
    “I fought for, for 15 years. When studios ten years ago were saying, you know, let's go look at the DC Bible and maybe there's some other characters you might like to play. No, I want to play Black Adam … So, to be here in Times Square, talking to you, getting ready to celebrate. Big night, very grateful,” Johnson said.
    "Black Adam" first appeared in a 1945 comic book. Since the 1970s, the character was acquired by DC Comics, first as a supervillain and then as a superhero.
    In the film, Black Adam, the ancient hero of fictional city Kahndaq, is freed from imprisonment after 5000 years and he is less than happy to be awoken.
    Johnson hopes audiences will see themselves in the film and be inspired.
    “I would describe this film as representing something in everyone. Now, I don't mean – we can’t fly, we don’t

    Co-star Noah Centineo said you could feel Johnson’s passion for the movie on-set.
    “He took a meticulous attention to detail as well. You can tell how much he cares. He really, really cares about this and it's an important story to tell.”
    The film also will introduce the Justice Society of America, which includes the characters Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan).
