- Story Text: Floods and landslides in Nepal's Bardiya has claimed 35 lives while 12 others remain missing, said local media reports on Wednesday (October 12).
Several flood victims were displaced and got separated from their homes and family owing to the floods, with around 20 people missing across eight districts.
"There is nothing to eat and no place to sleep or stay. I do not know the status of my wife, son, and daughter," said a displaced flood victim, Tika Ram Joshi.
The government has deployed rescue teams including the army and the police to search and rescue the victims.
The weather department has predicted the downpour to continue till the end of the month.
Flash floods and landslides are a common occurrence in the mountainous terrain of the Himalayan nation, especially during the annual monsoon rains between June and September.
However, untimely October rains brought an unprecedented hazard to the residents of Nepal, hundreds of whom became homeless with no sanctuary to seek food and shelter. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
