- Story Text: South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Friday (October 14) said his government has been working on building watertight countermeasures against North Korea's provocations since he took office, after Pyongyang fired a missile test earlier in the day and deployed military aircraft near the border.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the missile, the North’s 41st ballistic missile this year, was launched at about 01:49 a.m. on Friday (1449 Thursday GMT) from the Sunan area near Pyongyang.
Seoul also scrambled fighter jets when a group of about 10 North Korean military aircraft flew close to the border dividing the two countries, and Pyongyang fired some 170 artillery shots off its east and west coasts, said the JCS which issued a warning to the North, urging it to stop provocations and escalating tension.
South Korea's military will hold its annual Hoguk defence drills starting next week, including field training simulated to counter the North's nuclear and missile threats, it added.
