- Story Text: Brazil fans said they felt a boost of confidence in their side after watching them thrash South Korea 4-1 in their World Cup last-16 match in Doha on Monday (December 5).
The Brazilians brought a beach soccer swagger to the iconic Stadium 974 with a display that simply overwhelmed the Koreans and likely struck fear into potential opponents.
Fans outside the stadium shortly after midnight on Tuesday (December 6) said they could almost taste the title after watching their side dominate the Asian team.
“Now all I can think is that we’re gonna win it. We’re gonna win, and win, and win – the final, all the way to the final. It doesn’t matter who we have to face,†Julia Cruz from Rio de Janeiro said.
Brazil lost their final group stage match 2-1 to Cameroon on Friday (December 2), but once again Brazil coach Tite was proven right, with his starters fresh and hungry to show the world what they are capable of when the stakes are raised.
“It was awesome. We won and scored a bunch of goals. We had a good team out there because the last match wasn’t great. We lost to Cameroon. So, I hope the next game is even better,†said another Brazil fan, Luana Lima Fox.
Having failed to score in the first half of any match so far this tournament, five-times champions Brazil corrected that with four goals before the break.
South Korea fans said they leave with their heads high and take solace in at least scoring one goal against the South American giants.
“Yeah, that (the goal) really made the trip worth it. We were behind 4-0, but at least one goal – and it was an amazing goal. It was really fantastic,†Kin Sung from Seoul said.
Brazil next faces Croatia after they beat Japan in a penalty shootout in the earlier match at Al Wakrah, Qatar.
