- Story Text: Hollywood actors Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford turned out together on Friday (December 2) for the launch of 'Yellowstone' prequel, '1923'.
The two are no strangers to each other having starred alongside each other in the 1986 film 'Mosquito Coast'
Ford and Mirren play Jacob and Cara Dutton, the ancestors of the cast in the TV series 'Yellowstone'.
Asked what it was like getting back together, Ford told Reuters "She's awesome. She's a game on lady."
Mirren, on the other hand, said she was a movie star novice during 'Mosquito Coast' but said this time around, "I can look him in the eye, if you know what I mean."
The TV series, written by Taylor Sheridan, is set almost 100 years ago, but raises issues which are not far from today's world.
Asked if the show will be educational for viewers, Ford said "Educational? I don't know that I would use the word educational, I think I would say that it's educationally stimulating because he (Sheridan) backs you up against some barbed wire fences and asks you to consider judgments you might have made in the past against current conditions. It's pretty exciting."
Mirren's character, Cara, is introduced in the show's opening scene, blasting a man with a shotgun.
Asked if this was a precursor to women's roles in the series, Mirren said "When you're going back to look in history, obviously you have to pay attention to the reality of how attitudes to women and so forth but at the same time pay attention to the fact that women had as much variety in their characters and their courage as the men did, you know."
The series also begins showing Native American girls in a boarding school being treated terribly by members of the Catholic church.
Jennifer Ehle plays one of the nuns at the center of the treatment of these girls and admitted at the premiere she knew nothing about this issue prior to filming.
Leenah Robinson, who plays Native American girl Baapuxti and is Native American herself, knew full well of this historical issue.
She told Reuters "During the audition process, I thanked Taylor Sheridan for not shying away from how brutal these schools were. I said my thanks to him from not shying away from the brutality of everything and just how true it was."
Harrison Ford was back in the headlines this week after the trailer for 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' was made public. When the trailer was first shown at Disney convention D23, he got visibly emotional.
When asked how emotional he is going to be when the film is released, he replied with a wink "Er. A little emotional. See ya." and walked off.
'1923' begins streaming on December 18 on Paramount+.
