- Story Text: Drone footage showed smog-covered skies of New Delhi on Tuesday (December 06) as the air quality remained in the "very poor" category.
The world's most polluted capital city struggles to breathe easy every winter as cold temperatures and calm winds trap pollutants closer to the ground.
The air quality reading in the capital city was at 147, the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) said.
People coming out early in the day said they were compelled to change their daily routine as they were facing health issues to the toxic air.
"I used to come out for morning walks but now I have stopped coming because instead of benefitting I will suffer losses as the pollution level is higher in the morning. So, I have changed my daily routine (due to pollution)," said India's northern Kanpur resident working in New Delhi, Ashish Kumar Shukla.
The central government banned all private construction in the city and surrounding areas and enforced restrictions on diesel vehicles plying in the city. Authorities also sprayed water in some neighbourhoods to try to clear the air.
The government said that the average daily air quality index has improved to 320.6 points in November, from 376.50 in November 2021. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
