- Story Text: Rescue officials in India's central Betul district were trying with all their might to save an eight-year-old boy who fell into a 400-feet-deep borewell on Tuesday (December 06).
The boy, identified as Tanmay Sahu, was playing in a nearby field when he crossed over to another field and fell into a 5-6-year-old open borewell around 5 pm (1130 GMT) and got stuck at 55 feet.
On receiving the information rescue officials rushed to the accident spot and excavators were pressed into service to dig and pull out the child as soon as possible. A camera was also installed into the borewell to monitor the child's condition.
The condition of the child was stable, said police officials.
Incidents of children falling into open borewells have been reported frequently in India in recent times. Over the years, such cases have come to light in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and others. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
