- Story Text: One million people gathered on the Champs Elysees avenue of Paris on Saturday evening (December 31) to ring in 2023, with a grand fireworks display.
Parisians, residents from the region, and tourists from nearby and overseas filled the glittering avenue, as a countdown flashed on the Arc de Triomphe monument, followed by eight minutes of fireworks.
It was a return of the traditional New Year's fireworks on the Champs Elysees, after a pause in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Revellers wished for peace, happiness, and success in 2023.
Around a million people were on the avenue and surrounding streets to watch the spectacle, local news channel BFMTV reported.
