The death toll in India's Kashmir rose to five on Monday (January 02) after a blast which took place after Sunday's suspected militant attack in the hill town of Rajouri, where a child was killed.
At least 10 people who were injured in Sunday's attack were admitted to a hospital in Rajouri, of whom three were announced dead when they were brought in, while another lost his life later.
"While we were investigating the attack this morning, a blast took place here. By the looks of it, the IED bomb was placed under a sack. A child has died in the blast and seven others have been injured," said the Additional Director General of Police of Jammu, Mukesh Singh.
Locals and armed security personnel were seen rushing the blast victims to security vehicles and ambulances.
Meanwhile, relatives of the people who died in Sunday's attack mourned their deaths and held a protest march.
Kashmir is claimed in full by both India and arch-rival Pakistan, although both nuclear-armed neighbours only control parts of the region.
New Delhi has long accused Pakistan of backing armed militants, along with separatist groups in India's portion of the region.
Islamabad denies the Indian accusation, saying it provides only diplomatic and moral support to the separatist movement. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
