- Story Text: FIFA President Gianni Infantino posed for pictures with Pele's family and friends during the Brazilian soccer legend's wake on Monday (January 2).
Infantino paid his respects before the coffin of sporting giant Pele as he attended a memorial at the Vila Belmiro stadium, the home of Santos Football Club.
During the wake, Pele's friends, family, and former soccer players asked Infantino to pose with them for photographs.
Infantino also embraced Pele's son Edinho and spoke to Marcia Cibele Aoki, Pele's wife.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento - Pele's given name - was born in 1940 in the small country town of Tres Coracoes, but moved to Santos in 1956 and lived there for most of his life.
Pele, a prolific goalscorer who won the World Cup an unprecedented three times as a player in 1958, 1962, and 1970, died aged 82 after a long battle with cancer.
