- Story Text:'Peacock Valley' in India's eastern Cuttack city saw a rush of tourists who came to kick start the new year watching peafowls on Sunday (January 01).
Tourists clicked photographs of the peafowls, who were roaming in the open, and watched them from a distance.
"There were approximately 108 peafowls before the coronavirus lockdown but now there are more than 163," said the caretaker of the valley, KanhuCharanBehera.
Behera said that earlier in 1999 his grandfather spotted two peahens and one peacock and took care of those and fed them. Later, the population of the birds, as he gave them a safe haven increased from three to 117 now. After the death of his grandfather PannuBehera, Kanhucharan has been looking after them now.
He mostly feeds the peacocks with rice grains, wheat grains, or cooked rice. Apart from peacocks, the spot also has mongoose, pigeons, doves, and among other birds.
Over the years, 'Peacock Valley' has become a popular tourist attraction. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
