- Story Text: A handful of brave Romans welcomed 2023 on Sunday (January 1) by challenging winter and diving from a bridge into the Tiber river to celebrate New Year's Day.
The annual Tiber Dive has been celebrated on the first day of the new year since 1946. This year four divers took the plunge off the Cavour bridge in the centre of the Italian capital.
Veteran diver Maurizio Palmulli, known as Mr. O.K., was one of the four divers who plummeted off the bridge for the enjoyment of onlookers, before being pulled from the water onto a rescue boat.
