- Story Text: The forest department in India's western Nashik city captured and encaged a leopard on Monday (January 02).
The leopard allegedly killed a boy in Nashik on December 24.
"We have taken the swab from his (the boy's) body and we will match it with the swab we take from the leopard that we captured today. We will have to test both and only then we will be able to comment on if he killed the child," said the Range Forest Officer of the Forest Department, Ketan Birari.
He added that the captured leopard was a 10-year-old, pure adult male who was injured and was under treatment.
The wild cat was spotted roaming in a village in Igatpuri town when the locals informed the same to the forest department at 8 am (0230 GMT) following which the authorities sent a rescue team.
India's big cats are under threat, with an increasing number of spotted feline beauties being poached for their hide and other body parts.
On the other hand, the depletion of their habitat has threatened the leopards, forcing them to stray into human settlements and often get killed in return. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
