- Story Text: Worried parents in India's northern Bhatinda city queued up outside the doctor's chamber on Wednesday (January 04) to get their children examined as the city has been reeling under intese cold wave, making many, especially children, fall sick.
Common symptoms of viral fever among children included cold, cough, and fever, said a Bhatinda-based child specialist.
"Children, especially those within the age bracket of 1-5 years are getting impacted by the cold weather," he added.
Meanwhile, New Delhi residents had to brave the cold wave as the mercury dipped to a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius for the day.
Those compelled to live on the streets of the city without a roof over their heads, rushed to grab blankets that were being distributed on the roadside to seek relief from the agonising weather, which they otherwise endure by gathering around fires.
South Asia's winters are not as cold as other regions such as North America, but the millions of poor here are hit harder because they live in the open and do not have enough warm clothes and some even die. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
