- Story Text:Winter swimmers took to Prague's Vltava River on Friday (January 6) to mark Epiphany Day.
Swimming near the city's famous Charles Bridge and adorned with a crown on his head to symbolise the 'Three Kings', Zdenek "King Baltazar" Hruby, said this year's water was warmer than usual and the river's stream was sharp.
The water temperature on Friday was 6.1 degrees Celcius, close to that of 2015, which was the warmest water temperature Czech Winter Swimmer Union leader, Vladimir Komarek ever experienced.
“The coldest water (temperature) around like zero degrees was in 1984 and the warmest was in 2015 when it was 6,9 degrees, which is a lot,†Komarek told Reuters.
This year on New Year's Day, the record for the highest-ever January temperature in the Czech Republic was broken at 19.6 degrees Celsius, recorded in the morning in Javornik, Olomouc region.
