- Story Text: Fans flocked to the Brabourne Stadium in India's western Mumbai city on Sunday (March 26) to watch Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians face each other in the Women's Premier League finals.
Fans stood in long queues outside the stadium to cheer for their favorite teams in the finals of the inaugural edition of the tournament.
"The team (Mumbai Indians) is absolutely perfect. It is Harmanpreet Kaur, she won took a hat trick last match. It is amazing," said a fan, Harsh Dangarani.
"My favorite player is Jemimah Rodrigues. From the under-19 team I am following and recently she…she played very well inning(s) against Pakistan…her respect increased in my heart and that's why I am supporting Delhi Capitals," said another fan, Sharad Antony.
The clamour for a full-fledged women's league had been growing even though the Women's T20 Challenge ran as a three-team sideshow to the men's Indian Premier League between 2018-22.
The sale of WPL's five franchises and media rights alone fetched nearly $690 million and the Indian cricket board has lined up an impressive array of sponsors for the 22-match tournament. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
