The teacher represents progress in a country. Education represents progress towards the well-being of all its citizens. This bothers the government because they don't want Venezuelans to live well-being. They just want us to live to suffer, thinking every day about what we are going to eat, that our thoughts are only focused on what we are going to eat, or to be grateful for a miserable bag of food that has no nutritional value." - Story Text: Venezuelan teachers took to the streets of Caracas on Monday (March 27) to demand better salaries as the government of President Nicolas Maduro faces renewed challenges in its attempt to fight inflation.
In the capital city of Caracas, protesters holding signs and chanting slogans marched to the Education Ministry building.
The teachers said their salaries are not enough and demand a raise.
Venezuela's inflation is estimated to have reached 300% last year, according to a nongovernmental group of economists who calculate indicators in the absence of official data.
The minimum monthly salary for a public-school teacher is about $10, while university professors earn between $60 and $80.
