Rivals and allies of former U.S. president Donald Trump gathered around the district court in Washington, D.C., as Trump faced election conspiracy charges on Thursday (August 3).
Anti-Trump demonstrators got creative with one wearing a costume depicting Donald Trump as a sneering baby in a diaper and the word ''loser'' on his chest, while others held up signs reading: "Lock him up" and "fascist.''
Trump allies waved the American flag, wore "MAGA" caps and chanted into megaphones, while mounted police officers looked on.
Trump pleaded not guilty to federal charges that he orchestrated a plot to try to overturn his 2020 election loss in what U.S. prosecutors call an unprecedented effort by the then-president to undermine the pillars of American democracy.
The arraignment, lasting about half an hour, took place just half a mile (1 km) from the U.S. Capitol, the building his supporters stormed on Jan. 6, 2021, to try to stop Congress from certifying his defeat.
