- Story Text:The chief diplomatic advisor to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told Reuters on Thursday (August 3) that the coming peace talks in Saudi Arabia aim to 'fix common understanding' of his country's peace plan.
Ukraine and its allies aim to rally global support for a peace blueprint in talks hosted by Saudi Arabia this weekend but a question mark hangs over whether China will take part.
Diplomatic advisor Ihor Zhovkva said that China's ambassador to Ukraine had attended some meetings regarding Zelenskiy's peace formula and that it had the invitation "on the table."
A day before, the chief of Ukraine's presidential staff Andriy Yermak said at a conference for ambassadors in Kyiv that Ukraine wanted a peace summit of participating countries' leaders "as soon as possible" after the Saudi talks.
Ukraine aims to first build a bigger coalition of diplomatic support for its vision of peace beyond its core group of Western backers by reaching out to Global South countries such as India, Brazil, South Africa and Turkey.
Ukrainian, Russian and international officials say there is no prospect of direct peace talks between Ukraine and Russia at the moment, as the war continues to rage and Kyiv seeks to reclaim territory through a counter-offensive.
