- Summary: BERLIN, GERMANY (AUGUST 3, 2023) (REUTERS) VARIOUS OF GERMAN FANS WATCHING THE GAME IN A LOCAL PUB SCREEN SHOWING THE MATCH VARIOUS OF GERMAN FANS WATCHING THE MATCH (SOUNDBITE) (German) FAN, LISA WEINBERG, SAYING: "In all seriousness, it was simply too little. As good and outstanding as the first game was, not much happened afterwards. It's always the same. And that makes Germany so predictable. There's always a cross that's really good normally to Alexandra Popp, and Popp either heads it in or doesn't. And that's all. That's all there is to it. And that is simply not enough for a great football nation. And that's why, unfortunately, they don't deserve it. As bitter as it sounds. But I think they have to look at themselves and how they played here." FANS WATCHING THE GAME SCREEN VARIOUS OF FANS WATCHING THE GAME IN THE RAIN WITH RAIN JACKETS AND UMBRELLAS (SOUNDBITE) (German) FAN, KARLA DIEPENBECK, SAYING: "I am totally surprised that it happened so quickly. The Koreans were able to play with total freedom because they had no pressure and I would have thought after half-time that they would now switch over. Now the Germans brought it to a draw. But I think there was too much pressure. We have to win, we are under pressure. We want to be world champions. And I think it was just too much pressure. You could tell, They weren't liberated." VARIOUS OF FANS CHEERING AT THE GERMAN GOAL, EVENING THE MATCH TO 1:1 FANS LAUGHING AT THE TABLE FANS APPLAUDING FANS WATCHING GAME (SOUNDBITE) (German) FAN, KARLA DIEPENBECK, SAYING: "Women's football is great, that so many good teams come together is nice. Women's football is great, is much more interesting than men's football, I think." VARIOUS OF FANS WATCHING GAME (SOUNDBITE) (German) FAN, TOBIAS KRAFT, SAYING: "That's a pity. There is Great enthusiasm here and it would certainly have lasted the whole tournament and become even bigger. And this is now a huge disappointment. In the last few years, the women were much better than the men and now they are unfortunately not. It's a real shame. I'm totally sorry for women's football." VARIOUS OF FANS WATCHING THE GAME

- Story Text:Disappointed German football fans on Thursday (August 3) witnessed the women’s national team fail to advance beyond the preliminary round of the World Cup for the first time since the event started in 1991.
After a 1-1 draw against South Korea at the 2023 tournament in Australia and New Zealand, the team finished third in Group H, with Morocco and Colombia advancing to the next round.
A fan watching the match at a beer garden in Berlin called the early exit a "pity" while another said the team didn't deserve to advance given their performance in the competition.
The two-time World Cup winners and eight-time European Champions took silver in last year’s Women's Euro 2022 and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2019 World Cup.
