- Story Text: With the old city of Jerusalem as their stage, a musical and theatrical performance gave residents a historical and cultural take on the city through a mobile play.
The play 'Jerusalem Mosaic' intertwined the city's past with its present using music, dance and performance creating an opportunity to promote it as an important touristic destination.
The Palestinian National Theatre 'El-Hakawati' produced the play in cooperation with Pro Terra Santa, an NGO that works with Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land.
The play revolves around a love story between Bashir, the son of a café owner, returning from Beirut after obtaining a bachelor's degree in accounting in the summer of 1966, and Basma, the daughter of one of the richest welders in the city, and ending with the outbreak of the June 1967 war.
It will be staged 4 times in August, and hopes to continue through September.
The status of the disputed city has been one of the biggest obstacles to a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians for generations. Israel considers all of Jerusalem to be its capital. Palestinians want the eastern part of the city as the capital of a future independent state of their own.
