- Story Text: Security was beefed up in India's northern Haryana ahead of Islamic Friday (August 04) prayers to maintain law and order after parts of the state were rocked by a series of violent clashes between Hindu and Muslim communities earlier this week.
The violence erupted during a religious procession by Hindus in the Muslim-dominated Nuh district on Monday (July 31), resulting in the death of seven people, including two police personnel, and around 60 people were injured.
Security forces, in a show of strength, were seen patrolling the streets of the city.
Meanwhile, migrant workers were seen fleeing the city as media reports said hundreds of their shanties, which were allegedly illegal occupied, were demolished by the authorities.
The unrest on Monday also spread to New Delhi's neighbouring Gurugram and continued through Tuesday (August 01), with a mosque being set on fire and its cleric killed. Several shops and eateries were vandalized or torched.
Gurugram, formerly known as Gurgaon, shares a border with New Delhi and has emerged as a business hub for the country, housing several multinational companies. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
