- Story Text: Local residents of South Korea’s southwest Buan county on Friday (August 4) voiced concern for a global scout event being held on their home turf despite a crippling heat wave and mounting heat exhaustion-related cases amongst events participants.
At least 600 people at the World Scout Jamboree, which kicked off on Tuesday (August 1), have so far been treated for heat-related ailments, officials said.
On Friday morning, scout members were seen walking around their tents and washing their feet to cool off.
The event coincides with the highest level heat warning by the government in four years, as temperatures in some parts of the country exceeded 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit) this week.
