- Story Text: Slovenia's resident Drago Hudofisk remained philosophical on Sunday (August 6) after flood waters in Prevalje ripped through his home and dragged it down river after three days of torrential rains lashed the north and west of the country.
At least two people were killed in the floods, power has been cut off and traffic is unable to move.
Hudofisk says the floods are nature's way of getting pay back for human carelessness referring to weeks of fires, record-breaking temperatures, and floods in large parts of Europe.
He says he had hoped the Miza river would not burst its banks and save his house but by early morning he realised it was in vain and the building collapsed like a pack of cards. Mountain Rescue Services evacuated residents of the area by helicopter on Saturday (August 5).
Slovenia's Environment Agency has issued a red warning against large-scale flooding.
Rescuers have been struggling to reach flooded areas and issued a public call for rubber boats in places where roads were closed and impassable due to landslides.
Nearly all regional roads in the north were closed as well as some railway lines, and about 16,000 households were left without electricity, STA reported on Friday.
