Definitely spurred on by our win the other day. We’ve shown that we’ve got striking power, so I’m really enthused for the match today and I feel pretty confident.†KAYLEIGH: “I think the fact we had five different goal scorers in the last game really means a lot to us today. I think prior to that it was a bit worrying, were we able to get those balls in the back of the net. Now we definitely have, I’m feeling much more confident but I do think as a tournament it is wide open right now. I think there’s been lots of surprises.†(SOUNDBITE) (English) ENGLAND SUPPORTERS WHO HAVE TRAVELLED FOR THE TOURNAMENT, JULIE ABBOTT (LEFT) AND KELLY MCDONAGH (RIGHT), SAYING: KELLY: I think (Mary) Earps is going to keep a clean sheet.†JULIE: “Yeah I’d like to keep a clean sheet and I, two or three to England. I’d like to get us an early goal to settle down and then play our game. That’s the thing. But yeah clean sheet for Mary Earps. KELLY: “Another (Alessia) Russo four minute goal that’d be nice.†JULIE: “That’d be alright.†FAN PUTTING ON HANDMADE UPCYCLED COAT, MADE FROM OLD ENGLAND MERCH FAN SPINNING IN COAT AND CHEERING ON ENGLAND (SOUNDBITE) (English) ENGLAND SUPPORTERS WHO HAVE TRAVELLED FOR THE TOURNAMENT, JULIE ABBOTT (LEFT) AND KELLY MCDONAGH (RIGHT), SAYING (ABOUT LAUREN JAMES): JULIE: “Oh my god, what a baller. Like oh my gosh. How did she, how have we got such a remarkable talent in this squad.†KELLY: “I know. You know she picks up the ball and you can see them doubling up on her, which leaves another player free and if she can literally go out and just express herself, she could be the star of the tournament.†JULIE: “Oh she is, she is. Amazing.†KELLY: “I think she’ll get more goals and she’ll certainly get more assists.†ENGLAND FANS GATHERED AT PUB ENGLAND LIONESSES FLAG HANGING ON PUB FENCE MERCHANDISE STORE OPENING UP AT STADIUM FANS BUYING MERCHANDISE (SOUNDBITE) (English) ENGLAND SUPPORTERS WHO FLEW OVER FROM CANADA FOR THE TOURNAMENT, KEITH HAIGH (LEFT) AND HIS DAUGHTER LUCY HAIGH (RIGHT): KEITH: “Yeah we were very happy to see the USA go out last night. - Story Text: England fans were buoyant in Brisbane on Monday (August 7) as they geared up for the Women's World Cup last-16 match against Nigeria.
Supporters were boosted by the England’s last group stage match - a 6-1 victory over China - and hope that the momentum will carry through to Monday’s match.
But they know that they cannot take Nigeria lightly, and the tournament is still anyone’s game.
The Super Falcons have appeared in all nine World Cups but never won a knockout game.
