- Story Text:Peru transformed the metal of thousands of seized weapons into a public park and an open gymnasium south of Lima to bring a new focus to the fight against insecurity in the Andean country.
Authorities said they melted down more than 6,000 weapons to create see-saws, grab bars, swings, and exercise machines.
Children and adults on Wednesday (April 17) enjoyed the new equipment in the San Juan de Miraflores neighbourhood, one of the areas most affected by violence in the province of Lima.
In 2023, Peru destroyed more than 21,000 weapons seized nationwide. According to officials, two more parks will be built in Lima with weapons destroyed last year.
