- Story Text: The 'Elephants' of the Ivory Coast have qualified for soccer's World Cup for the first time and will be staying in Niederkassel throughout the 2006 competition.
Of all the African finalists, expectations are perhaps highest for the Ivory Coast, not least because the squad includes Didier Drogba of Chelsea, who scored nine goals in qualifying.
The squad will be staying in the Clostermann's Hof hotel in Niederkassel, which is between Bonn and Cologne. They are due to arrive on June 9, the opening day of the tournament and the eve of their match against Argentina in Hamburg.
The Ivorians will also play Netherlands and fellow newcomers Serbia and Montenegro in Group C.
Ivory Coast were runners-up in the African Cup of Nations 2006, losing 4-2 on penalties to hosts Egypt after a goalless draw.
The director of their hotel in Germany, Emil Seidel, told Reuters TV: "Sportsmen have special dietary requirements, but we are not responsible for these, not this time anyway, because the team from the Ivory Coast are bringing their own kitchen staff. But we are going to do as much as we can in every other respect to make the team's stay here as pleasant and comfortable as possible. They should stay in Germany for as long as possible and have a good time during the World Cup."
There will be seven other new names at the World Cup: Angola; Ghana; Togo; Trinidad and Tobago; and appearing for the first time under their modern flags: Czech Republic; Serbia and Montenegro; and Ukraine. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
