- Story Text: Monseigneur Giovanni Mariani, the first Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to the Ivory Coast, presented his credentials to President Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan on Wednesday (October 4).
In his speech before presenting his credentials, Mgr. Mariani recalled the work done by the President in building up the Ivory Coast, and the country's contributions to African unity and international understanding.
In his reply, President Houphouet-Boigny expressed his pleasure at welcoming the Vatican's first representative int he Ivory Coast - adding that, under the Nuncio's guidance, all their works towards "fraternity and peace.....would continue to expand on the Ivorian land of dialogue".
Mgr. Mariani, also represents the Holy See in all French-speaking West Africa - except Togo and Guinea. He will reside in Dakar, Senegal.
