  • Story Text:The brutal killing of athlete Rebecca Cheptegei by her estranged lover has ignited a national conversation on gender-based violence in Kenya.
    As women demand for justice and answers, they are also asking if their success provokes a deadly response from men.
    Cheptegei, who finished who competed in the Paris Olympics, suffered burns to more than 75% of her body after she was doused in petrol and set on fire by her boyfriend, making her the third female athlete to be killed in the country since October 2021.
    She died on Thursday (September 5).
