And what is great that is it's not just models walking down the runway but people that you recognise from different fields which is what makes it fun, and the thing that makes it the most fun of all is that the public get to see the show, because they never really get to see fashion shows because it is just for the industry, so that's what makes it." - Story Text: Supermodel and celebrity campaigner Naomi Campbell jetted into the Cote d'Azur to meet the world's media on Sunday, May 15, continuing in her efforts to raise awareness for the victims of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.
"The plan is in Cannes to raise money," the supermodel told Reuters. "We have done these all over the world, so usually it is that every item of clothing you see on the runway you can buy, and this show tomorrow, Fashion Relief for Japan, it's all red carpet dresses, that is the theme, so each dress can be bought with great auction items. And what is great that is it's not just models walking down the runway but people that you recognise from different fields which is what makes it fun, and the thing that makes it the most fun of all is that the public get to see the show, because they never really get to see fashion shows because it is just for the industry, so that's what makes it."
Set at the historic Forville Market in Cannes on Monday March 16, Campbell will be joined by a collection of A-list celebrities and supermodels.
"Fashion Relief only happens because it is a collaboration of us all coming together in our fashion world, and we do what we do because it is our... what we want to give back and our way of giving back," she said.
Zach Abrahams from the Red Cross said that he was grateful for the continued support by campaigner like Campbell for the continued support in helping raise awareness for victims of natural disasters and wars:
"It's support from groups like NAOMI Campbell and Fashion for Relief that put it back in the spotlight, and working with the Red Cross long after the cameras fade, the work still needs to get done. In Haiti, in disasters across the globe, and her support for Japan will continue that we can provide them much needed relief, desperately needed for those people."
The Red Cross-themed event will mimic the famous Cannes red carpet and Campbell promises those who attend the will have a wonderful experience:
"The thing that makes it the most fun of all is that the public get to see the show, because they never really get to see fashion shows because it is just for the industry, so that's what makes it."
To date, Fashion for Relief says it has raised more than four and a half million British pounds for various causes. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
