CAMPBELL SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) NAOMI CAMPBELL, MODEL, SAYING: "There's competitiveness with the girls and there is competitiveness with the coaches. And it would be, I would be lying if I said there wasn't. I mean, that's the way of the world, it's like that anyway. There are so many models out there vying for the job so it's good for them to know that that's the real authentic feeling of - what you see is what's authentic in the real world of modeling." CAMPBELL SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) NAOMI CAMPBELL, MODEL, SAYING: "I don't know, but I like what I do still. I don't do it every day, but I like when I do do it." KURKOVA POSING FOR PICTURES KURKOVA SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) KAROLINA KURKOVA, MODEL, SAYING: "I mean the show is really a how to be, not just a successful supermodel, but how to be somebody who is going to be in the spotlight. Even if you're not the face of ULTA Beauty, you still - people are watching you on TV, people will know about you, people will be like watching you and stopping you on the street. So you really need to be prepared for that and how do you handle that." BARKER, ROCHA AND CAMPBELL POSING FOR PICTURES ROCHA SPEAKING TO REPORTER MORE OF ROCHA WITH REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) COCO ROCHA, MODEL, SAYING: "Well it's kind of an eerie feeling because that whole thing is, they believe everything you have to say. And we're not perfect, we make mistakes too, so when you give them a suggestion at the end of the day you go, 'oh my gosh, was that the right thing, should I have said that to you?' And the other thing is that we all have our own ways of modeling. So sometimes you look at the other and go, 'that's not what I would do, why would she decide to do that?' And you realize, well, wait a second, it's all right. We've all become successful for reasons of our own." BARKER POSING FOR PICTURES BARKER SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) NIGEL BARKER, HOST, SAYING: "Thank you very much. I guess you could put it that way. It's certainly a lot easier in many respects to be the host. You know, it's tough being critical and condemning and, you know, and all the rest of it. And I enjoy being the host. I like sort of being the negotiator and delivering the days plans and actually just making people feel comfortable, it's kind of a good role." - Story Text: Naomi Campbell has teamed up with fellow supermodels Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha to share their fashion knowledge with 12 wannabe models for the new television show "The Face."
The trio will each coach four models as they compete against each other hoping to earn one of their respective models a year-long contract with ULTA Beauty. On the red carpet Campbell said the contest mimics real life.
"There's competitiveness with the girls and there is competitiveness with the coaches. And it would be, I would be lying if I said there wasn't. I mean, that's the way of the world, it's like that anyway. There are so many models out there vying for the job so it's good for them to know that that's the real authentic feeling of - what you see is what's authentic in the real world of modeling," Campbell told Reuters.
In addition to teaching the models all the techniques of the industry, the veterans also share their knowledge on fame.
"I mean the show is really a how to be, not just a successful supermodel, but how to be somebody who is going to be in the spotlight. Even if you're not the face of ULTA Beauty, you still - people are watching you on TV, people will know about you, people will be like watching you and stopping you on the street. So you really need to be prepared for that and how do you handle that," Czech born model Kurkova explained.
However, 24-year-old Rocha, the youngest of the group, said there is some fear associated with dishing out advice.
"They believe everything you have to say. And we're not perfect, we make mistakes too, so when you give them a suggestion at the end of the day you go, 'oh my gosh, was that the right thing, should I have said that to you?,'" she said.
All three models have had different roads to success, which Rocha said will be highlighted in the show: "Sometimes you look at the other and go, 'that's not what I would do, why would she decide to do that?' And you realize, well, wait a second, it's all right. We've all become successful for reasons of our own."
But 42-year-old Campbell said she could not explain why she's been so lucky in the business: "I don't know, but I like what I do still. I don't do it every day, but I like when I do do it."
This is the first time Rocha, Kurkova or Campbell have signed on full-time to do reality television. For Campbell, who is also the show's executive producer, the opportunity to train young models was appealing.
"I think that the thing that attracted me was the mentoring aspect and getting to share my experiences with young hopefuls who want to be in the business," said said.
But for Nigel Barker, who recently ended his run on Tyra Banks' "America's Next Top Model," the opportunity to graduate from judge to host was thrilling.
"It's certainly a lot easier in many respects to be the host. You know, it's tough being critical and condemning and, you know, and all the rest of it. And I enjoy being the host. I like sort of being the negotiator and delivering the days plans and actually just making people feel comfortable, it's kind of a good role," said Barker, who was joined by former Top Model co-stars Jay Manuel and Jay Alexander at the party.
