- Story Text: France and Saudi Arabia have decided to draw up a charter to boost co-operation in economic, political and other fields.
This was announced in Paris on Tuesday (22 July) following two days of talks between Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Fahd Ibn Abdulaziz and President Valery Giscard d'Estaing and members of the French Government.
Co-operation between the two countries will include trading Saudi crude oil for French technological assistance on a large scale.
On leaving the Elysee Presidential Palace after talks with the French President, Crown Prince Fahd told reporters; "We discussed all issues of common concern ... arms, oil, Middle East and other problems."
The two leaders considered an ambitious Arab project for the development of an aircraft and missile manufacturing industry in Egypt backed by Arab oil revenues and intended to serve Arab states.
Prince Fahd also had talks with Prime Minister Geckoes Chirac, who said the charter governing relations between the two countries would be signed on Thursday (24 July) before the Prince returned home after his tree-day official visit.
The French Premier said three members of his government would shortly visit Saudi Arabia to sign further agreements for economic development.
