- Story Text: Designer David Koma whose outfits are worn by popstars like Kylie Minogue, Beyonce and Rihanna, unveiled his new collection on Tuesday (September 20).
Models stepped out on to the runway in white and black based outfits, some decorated with 3.D iridescent perspex pieces.
''One of the ideas was, quite tropical, kind of Hawaiian theme, we wanted to have quite Summery fresh colours, so that's where it came from,'' said the designer backstage.
Koma said his new range was inspired by the work of contemporary artist Jim Koon, and Koma set about using the body as a canvas.
Fitted cut out dresses looked like a second skin revealing parts of the model's bodies, which Koma said mirrored Polynesian tribal tattoos.
Speaking about the kind of woman who would wear his dresses he said she's 'happy' and knows 'what she wants in her life.' Koma is a graduate of one of Britain's top design schools, London's Central Saint Martins, considered a cradle of talent for the fashion world.
The school has produced such superstars as Stella McCartney and John Galliano.
Asked if he would like to show in one of the other fashion capitals like McCartney and Galliano, Koma said due to the support he receives in the English capital, he plans to stay put.
''I extremely love London, and I feel very happy here, the amount of support you know that I receive from the British Fashion Council and NewGen I mean it's incredible, so I wouldn't even think about moving somewhere else,'' said Koma.
The Georgian born designer showcased his Spring/Summer range on the penultimate day of London Fashion Week.
Koma is a recipient of Topshop's NewGen sponsorship scheme which supports new designers, he has also produced a capsule collection for the high street store. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
