- Story Text: Hundreds of fans queued outside the Sorting Office in Central London to attend an underground rave performance by French star DJ, David Guetta in London on Wednesday evening (August 1).
Grammy award winning DJ Guetta used the set as the backdrop to film the music video for his new single 'Metropolis', the first track to be published under his new independent label Jack Back Records.
"This place yes is kind of underground. But you know this is where I'm coming from and of course you know my music is crossing over now and I'm blessed with a lot of success and I love it, but I don't forget where I'm coming from," Guetta explained ahead of his performance.
The French DJ, who has celebrated worldwide success with hits like "When Love Takes Over", "Getting' Over You" and "Titanium" has joined forces with fellow Frenchman and street artist, who happens to share the same surname as him, Thierry Guetta.
It will be the first music video Thierry is directing, and David admitted that he had no clue how it will turn out.
"I don't know what's gonna happen tonight. I have no idea, I don't know if the video is gonna be amazing or terrible, but it's gonna be fun. That's for sure," he said.
Thierry Guetta aka Mr Brainwash rose to prominence through the 2010 Banksy-directed film "Exit through the Gift Shop" in which he featured. At the time of its release the film enjoyed incredible critical buzz as well as controversy from those who wondered whether the film was a fabrication.
The film also brought Mr Brainwash to the attention of David Guetta.
"It's funny cause I met him, he was following me everywhere. And I was like 'who is this crazy guy that is following me?'" Guetta remembers.
"Then I discovered that he was, he had the same name than mine. His name is Thierry Guetta and was also French. So I was like, well that's interesting. Then like ten years later I saw his movie about street art. I thought it was really really amazing, asking really interesting questions about art and what art is and capturing unique moments of the most amazing artists on the planet."
The collaboration for "Metropolis" will feature both material from Wednesday's show as well as additional footage collected by Mr Brainwash over the years.
David Guetta said he hoped this collaboration would also help introduce street art to a new audience.
"I love it (street art), I know they (the audience) can love it you know and I think it's great sometimes to use different ways you know like not everyone is gonna go to a museum you know", he said.
Coincidentally, Wednesday's warehouse rave took place at the same venue that hosts Mr Brainwash's first major European street art show, which sees a combination of various pop artworks on display including portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, Kate Moss and The Beatles.
The exhibition will open to the public on August 5. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
