- Story Text: Actor and singer David Hasselhoff, affectionately known as "The Hoff," displayed some of his favorite memorabilia on Monday (April 7), which he'll be putting up for auction as part of a reality TV series named "Celebrity Home Raiders."
Most of the items on display were from his two most popular TV shows, "Knight Rider" and "Baywatch." The most eye-catching item, however, was a prop used in Hasselhoff's guest appearance on the children's show, "SpongeBob SquarePants." In the center of the auction room, a 12-foot-long, and chillingly life-like replica of the actor, lay face down on a sturdy metal stand.
"I have so much stuff," Hasselhoff explained. "And it was either put it in the attic, put it in a restaurant, or give it to somebody who really wants it, you know, and raise a little money for the Starlight Foundation, which is a great foundation."
The former "Baywatch" star has also enjoyed fame in Europe as a singer. His song "Looking for Freedom," put him at the top of Germany's pop charts for several weeks.
"We sold 11 million singles and it became a phenomenon, and the Berlin Wall happened to come down the same year my record was number 1. So they asked me to sing on New Year's Eve, I said, 'only if I can sing on the Berlin Wall celebration' and they did, they said yes, so I did. I sang to a million people, now it's prolificated 25 years later, the wall is down," Hasselhoff said.
Hasselhoff has also been the subject of controversy and humor in recent years, especially after a video leaked onto the Internet showing the actor in an apparent alcoholic stupor trying to eat a cheeseburger.
But Hasselhoff, at least on camera, seems intent on not taking himself too seriously. He joked that while he may have never starred in more serious shows like "Grey's Anatomy" or "ER," his shows have at least made a lot of money. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
