Tremors in Florence on Friday (December 19) reignited concerns on the safety of Michelangelo's David, a trademark of Italy's Renaissance.
Italian media reported that a project to study a special platform, meant to absorb vibration and shocks, will be accelerated after the minor quakes.
The five meter nude statue portrays the Biblical hero who killed his opponent Goliath by using a simple slingshot.
Renaissance master Michelangelo, who sculpted David with a slingshot over his shoulder, completed the statue in 1504.
David was initially put on display in front of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Now it is housed in the museum Galleria dell'Accademia. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
