- Story Text: Wimbledon saw the second round of the Men's Singles today (Wednesday), as international stars met on the third day of London's celebrated tennis championships. The match between Ken Fletcher and fellow-Australian Owen Davidson promised to be one of the most vigorous of the day, but Fletcher took the honours with unexpected ease.
Davidson achieved the semi-finals of last year's championships, but today was not to be one of his best. His opponent, Hong Kong based Ken Fletcher, who is seeded sixth, beat his opponent by a smooth 7 - 5, 6 - 2, 6 - 2.
After losing the first set, having driven Fletcher into 12 games, Davidson's left-handed game disintegrated on the Centre Court. It was a sad farewell to Wimbledon as an amateur player - he becomes a professional coach to the British National team in the autumn.
Today's matches whittled the number of competitors down to 32 - leaving two more rounds to go before the quarter-finals.
