- Story Text: There were no red lights on Hamburgs famous Reeperbahn
brothel district for Formula One racing driver David Coulthard
on Monday night.
The British Mercedes-McLaren driver raced a two-seat
version of his Formula One car up and down the world famous red
light district at speeds of up to 200 km/h (120 mph) during a
three-hour demonstration for 15,000 Hamburg fans.
Coulthard, who is currently in third place in the world
championship standings behind teammate Mika Hakkinen and
Germanys Michael Schumacher, gave a number of local celebrities
rides in the 750 PS race car on the 1.5 km (one mile) circuit
which had been closed off to traffic.
The St.Pauli Grand Prix, named after the world famous
stretch of bars and night clubs, was organised by a local
Mercedes dealer.
"This has been an interesting day because we have taken the
car to the public rather than the public coming to the car. It's
an opportunity to see a Formula-1 car up close, to hear it,
smell it and it is something special, Coulthard said at the end
of the drive at 10 p.m. -- when the red lights on the Reeperbahn
were turned back on.
