- Story Text: The pop-singer Mariah Carey was awarded a golden record in Munich on Wednesday (November 30). The award by Universal Music was for her newest album, "The Emancipation of Mimi", which has sold seven million copies worldwide. Carey's career has taken off again after hitting the skids four years ago when her previous label, Virgin Records, paid her $28 million to cancel a contract reportedly worth $80 million. Her comeback album, "The Emancipation of Mimi", is one of this year's biggest sellers, according to her label Island Def Jam. "This is amazing and I am just so overwhelmed by the success of this album "The Emancipation of Mimi" and I certainly couldn't have done this without the wonderful support of Universal Germany, so thank you so much and thank you everybody, all the great members of the German press who have been so kind to me", Carey told reporters as she was presented with a plaque representing the seven million sold albums. On Wednesday Carey (35), had been quoted as saying she likes her outfits to be as figure-hugging as possible and eschews underwear during her concerts. "Right before a show I even get myself sown into my dresses naked, because I can't stand visible panty lines or if the zip bulges out" Carey, told the German magazine Bunte.
