- Story Text: The President of Argentina, Senora Maria Estela de Peron, visited the headquarters of the Army's General Command in Buenos Aires on Thursday (August 8), and had lunch with the Commander in Chief of the Army, General Leandro Enrique Anaya. It is believed that General Anaya pledged the Army's full support to her Government.
The previous day, three left-wing Peronists had been shot dead in La Plata, after a renewed upsurge of violence between right-wing and left-wing factions in the ruling Justicialist Movement. The murders increased to four the number of leftwingers killed in apparent retaliation for the killing of a righting Peronist at a local cinema in La Plata three days before.
The three who died included Senor Horacio Chavez, aged 66, and his 36 year-old son, Rolando. They had been kidnapped form their home, and then their bullet-riddled bodies thrown from a passing car in front of the local headquarters of the Peronist Youth Movement. Rolando Chavezx had been a leader of the leftwing faction in the Youth Movement.
Shortly after their bodies were found, a leading trade unionist, Senor Carlos Pierini, 48, was shot dead near an airfield outside the city.
On Sunday (August 11) left-wing guerrillas carried out a series of daring raids on Army and Police posts. The next day the Army High Command met the discuss the situation. They afterwards met with the President.
