- Story Text: A heavy hailstorm lashed the city of Fuzhou in China's southern Jiangxi province on Sunday (April 28) while the northern part of Hebei province was blanketed in snow over the weekend, state broadcast CCTV reported on Monday (April 29).
Hailstones the size of chicken eggs battered downtown Fuzhou and smashed car windows, CCTV reported. In the northern province of Hebei, snow blanketed some areas in the city of Chengde with temperatures hitting as low as minus five degrees Celsius (23 degrees Fahrenheit), CCTV said.
China has been battling extreme weather in recent weeks. On Saturday (April 27), a tornado struck the southern city of Guangzhou and killed five people, while floods swamped cities in southern China's densely populated Pearl River Delta following record-breaking rains about two weeks ago.
