- Story Text: Fashion Week started in Moscow with Valentin Yudashkin new pret-a-porter fashion show.
Volvo Fashion Week opened on Saturday night (March 20) in Moscow with a host of home-grown designers showcasing their new collections in the Russian capital, though big-name international designers have still not returned to the event.
The Fashion Week kicked off at Gostiny Dvor, fashionable and prestigious exhibition and fair hall in Moscow's centre, with Valentin Yudashkin new pret-a-porter fashion show.
The renowned Russian couturier could offer a full-fledged show presenting clothes for everyday use, festive and official events.
Fashion critics are saying crisis has to some extent affected the clients taste and they prefer classically looking shape, simple enough and not defiant.
"Minimalism is winning, and the imagination of the fashion designers is functioning perfectly. As I can see, they are creating something out of nothing. Frankly speaking, I'm grateful to the crisis because various pompous ideas are disappearing, glam style I mean. An anti-glam style has come into existence, but it doesn't mean that this is not elegant, this is very elegant. What is more, noble colours are coming back, say black or deep lilac, or something else. It means style and taste are coming back," said Andrei Zhitinkin, renowned Russian stage director who is following attentively modern fashion trends.
Black was dominating colour of dresses and suits at Yudashkin's show, with shape mostly quite strict and moderate, underlining the silhouette and bearing nothing redundant.
Fur jackets or lace dresses were included in collection but didn't prevail in general.
According to Yudashkin the collection was designed to be affordable and had to be offered in boutiques and other clothes shops soon.
"For a long time, for many seasons the whole fashion world has been creating Russian collections, interesting collections which were inspired by Russia and filled with Russian impression. We are showing now a European collection which will be presented worldwide. We have exhibited it in Paris and the next show is here in Moscow," said Yudashkin.
The Russian fashion business is rather young and comparatively small in size if compared to world famous fashion houses.
Reportedly the world economic crisis has not affected it much. The downturn was not that dramatic as for some big companies in this country.
There were no bankruptcies or other dramatic cases of this kind, demand fell slightly and currently is growing again, the fashion business expert are saying. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
