- Story Text: It was a return to the eighties, as Argentine haute couture designer Roberto Piazza presented his "Goddesses" fashion collection in Buenos Aires on Monday (May 19).
Sequins, batwing dresses, huge hair and a touch of cabaret were the order of the day.
The slogan: "Goddess dresses for the everyday woman" - a show filled with sparkle and luxury.
"The materials that have been used for this collection are taffetas, chantu silk, chiffon, Muslin, brocade; all of the cloth you could imagine, all the different types and the materials are fantastic -- from very simple cloths to tulle and they are covered in metallic items that are just gorgeous. There is a lot of metal and wood. Very bizarre things, things from haute courte and that only I could risk the delirium to do it," Piazza told Reuters.
Piazza is Argentina's most famous designer, known for his outrageous taste and long career. He has been presenting catwalk collections for 33 years now, and claimed this season's was the "prettiest" he has ever attempted.
"It is the synthesis of design: to be able to mix within a collection a show and dresses that anyone watching can say, 'I would die for that dress! I want it, because it makes me feel like a goddess.' That would be the slogan. And it is difficult, because you live from learning from your mistakes but I don't produce collections every day. I do one once a year, so if something doesn't turn out right I have 365 days to fix it. But I think this is collection in about 90% quasi-perfect. So all of the women are going to feel just like goddesses, well if they buy something," he said.
Piazza said the clothes had been inspired by historic tales across the world, including images of the Roman goddesses Venus and Minerva. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
