- Story Text: Fusing fashion and film was the theme at German designer Michael Michalsky's 'Style Night' during the Berlin Fashion Week on Friday (January 21). Teaming up with Walt Disney Pictures, Michalsky brought a mixture of German and international stars to his show that also served as Germany's premiere of the 3D sci-fi adventure "TRON: Legacy".
Cast and director of the move quickly warmed to the idea of sharing the red carpet with models and fashionistas. US- actress Beau Garrett even posed on the read carpet in a Michalsky creation.
More than 40 models showed Michalsky's creations that are inspired by urban lifestyle - and TRON. Living life in the fast lane, the ever growing use of technology, and social networking inspired the designer to come up with futuristic designs. Fabrics in metallic looks, three-dimensional materials and heavy silks in camouflage print as well as nylon, wool and cashmere were used. Precise cuts, but also effortless draping, make for an individual yet easy going style.
Back in 1982, first-time director Steven Lisberger brought mainstream audiences into the world of video games with the sci-fi thriller "TRON", using early computer-generated imagery that paved the way for today's 3D movie blockbusters.
Now the long-awaited sequel "TRON:Legacy" from Walt Disney Pictures, pushes 3D technology and digital performance capture a step further.
"TRON: Legacy" finds the son of video game developer Kevin Flynn being pulled into the digital world that has trapped his father for 20 years.
Director Joe Kosinski took the technology that was introduced in 2008's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" to create a completely virtual human character, Clu, played by Jeff Bridges who was also the star of the original "TRON".
Even the 3D technology powering the film, that was developed by James Cameron and Vince Pace for "Avatar," has received an upgrade through new cameras that hit the market right before filming began.
Kosinski said the end result will be a 3D experience that immerses audiences even deeper in the on-screen action. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
